Carmal Corporation recently completed the installation of a base camp in a remote area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for a global oil exploration company. The project was initiated in August 2009 with the first materials arriving on site by October 2009. The camp was operational by the end of May 2010.
In excess of 350 tonnes of material and equipment was shipped and transported to the site during the period of construction. Specialist construction and installation teams were flown in to the site at various stages of construction, installation and assembly.
The base camp comprises a 32-man accommodation block, a clinic, an administration block with 14 offices, a catering kitchen, a dining area, a laundry and a vehicle repair and maintenance workshop.
The buildings are pre-fabricated modular buildings and were supplied with air-conditioning, plumbing, electrical installation, furniture, bedding, kitchen and catering equipment, laundry equipment, recreation equipment, consumables and all other amenities necessary to make a remote camp of this size as comfortable as possible for occupants.
In addition to the camp buildings, Carmal Corporation also supplied, erected and fitted the folowing:
- 35 metre Monopole GSM and VHF communication tower
- 900 metres of razor-wire security fencing
- Fuel storage and dispensing equipment for diesel and petrol
- Water suppression equipment
- Solar managed airfield lighting to provide night landing capability to CAA standards
- 400mē fully enclosed warehouse
- Electricity power grid with a fully synchronized 3-generator power system capable of supplying 700KVA.
